Germany
Black, red and gold were the colours of volunteer corps who fought Napoleon, raised again by liberal students at Hambach Castle in 1,832 demanding a unified, free Germany. They were the flag of the failed 1,848 revolution, banned twice by later regimes, and adopted for good in 1949.
