Nan Madol
Built on a Micronesian coral reef from basalt columns weighing up to 50 tons each, Nan Madol's builders moved an estimated 2,000 tons of stone a year for centuries without pulleys, levels or metal tools. Archaeologists have found likely quarry sites; exactly how the stones were moved and set remains a genuinely open engineering question.
