Project Blue Book
The Air Force really did investigate UFOs, openly, for seventeen years. Project Blue Book logged over 12,000 sightings between 1952 and 1969 and closed having found no evidence of alien craft and no threat to national security in any of them, with about 6 percent left formally unexplained.
