Opal (Precious)
Precious opal owes its flashing colour to microscopic silica spheres stacked in a near-perfect grid, small enough to bend light into separate wavelengths. Slightly irregular spacing between spheres kills the effect entirely, which is why common opal looks so different from precious opal despite being chemically identical.
