Baghdad Battery
A set of clay jars found near Baghdad in 1936, each holding a copper cylinder and iron rod, can produce a small electric charge when reconstructed with an acid solution. No ancient text explains what they were actually for; proposed uses range from electroplating metal to treating pain, all entirely human applications.
