The legend began with one man. In 1953, UFO enthusiast Albert Bender claimed three men in dark suits visited him and ordered him to stop publishing his flying-saucer magazine, which happened to be losing money anyway. He offered no evidence, but the story became ufology's most enduring bogeyman.
