A granite monument erected anonymously in Georgia in 1980, inscribed in eight languages with guidance for rebuilding civilization after a catastrophe, stood for over four decades as a magnet for speculation about who built it and why. In July 2022 an explosive device destroyed one of its slabs, and officials demolished the rest that same day.
